fingerless gloves, Kidos' on the dogs

I wrote this yesterday in my journal.

i got to talking with a friend on the phone a bit ago, about making things and she mentioned fingerless gloves. I have a pair. I bought them for $15 at the last CoHT meeting I was able to attend. (3 years ago) they are the best for when you want your hands warm but need your fingers for doing something. (controling dogs on leads while walking) I like the idea of making them out of old sweaters. Now I need an old sweater.

Oh oh, Kudos' on my dogs today.. Very Big KODOS' We took our walk a bit early this after noon, knowing that we are going to get rain.. on our way to the trash can and mail box, taking care of three things at once. We were walking up the hill, past a drivealong camper, when, just as we were passing it, I notied a rather large German Shephard sitting outside the door. I told my two "No" and "Leave him". and that was all I had to say.. He didn't bark and my two didn't bark. and they kept walking with me as well. I was shocked they behaved so very well. They kept looking to see if he was following us to the area I potty them, then let them play with each other a few minutes each time we go that way. I didn't see that dog again. I don't know if he was taken in or if the owner walked him to a different area. We took a different route back to the camper.

Long Weekend is over.

Whew.. What a long, long weekend we had. Jerry had off from Wed through Sun. Wed, was a lot of running around. I "knew" we needed propane.. but I didn't expect to have to buy a new tank.. then found out the old tank is stil very, very good. So now we have two full tanks of propane. I won't need to refill for at least a year at this rate. We've been using the one tank since late March or early April. We never tried it when we had the camper last year. Dont know why, just didn't.

Jerry picked up a Garmin GPS system last week, and we had to go looking for Geocaches. So far we are 3 for 6. Two we know we were right on top of and coudnl't find at all. Since one is suppose to be the size of a ammo box is should have been easier to spot once we got in the area.

I "finally" found a way to contain the kittens while we are out. (still hving a catbox usage issue with a couple of them). I have a flexable screen I picked up last year and I hope to find another one this next spring. It's really too tall for inside but since it's flexable, it will work. I put it in the bathroom doorway with the kittens in the bath area. Using some paper clamps that are extra heavty duty (and have maganets on the back) I can clamp the sides to the partitions and the top to an edge where there use to be a folding door in here. As I've said before,I'd rather the kittens use tub than the floor and the box rather than the tub. Instead of cleaning the cat box once a day, I'm cleaning it twice a day. That should help as well.

Thanksgiving went well. the turkey cooked a bit faster than I expected it to. So we ate just a bit earlier than first planned on. But besides the turkey I had a mashed up sweet potato with a dab of butter, rasins and mini marshmellows in it. Fixed Mashed potatoes for Jerry, from scratch. Nuked Peas and Carrots, cut up green pepper, cuckumbers, carrots and had some grape sized tomatoes. Also had grapes for that touch of sweet. I also had cottage cheese, cut up cheese, olives. whole berry cranberry sauce. For our dessert I fixed a pumpkin cake by mixing in one can of pumpkin into a spice cake mix. That's it, no milk or oil or eggs added to it. I topped mine with cool whip, Jerry doesn't like cook whip or any whipped topping.

Friday, Oh man. We started off getting up around 4 am.. Jerry wanted to get me a new laptop and Walmart had one on sale that he wanted to get me.. Only no one told us we had to be at Walmart at 2 am to get an armband in order to pick it up at 5 am.. Man oh man was Jerry mad about that. We headed to the other walmart in town and it was the same story. Both on the arm band and Jerry being mad. We ended up going to Best Buy and although they had been opened about 20 minutes still had plenty of laptops. Jerry had to pay a bit more than the one at W/M but this one has a larger screen and he is happy that we got this one. I had him set it up for me. We had to pick up DVD disks so he could make the backup diskes for just in case.

Of course, I'm still learning all the new things on the window's 7 program. I'm not thrilled with it's post it note program. I'll stick with Stickies. It has more of the features I like, like hiding it and able to have it repeat day after day as I go along.

After breakfast at home. We then headed out looking for another Geocache. Got close but never found it. Finally we found one on our third search.
Back to Walmart for just looking around, that's when I got the clips for the screen to keep the cats in the back. We did some more looking around but it was still crowded. We went to the flea market, It wasn't as full as last time, and nothing new was there. I did pick up a strainer that we needed though. Jerry likes to strain his ramein soups.

We drove around a bit. Then went to Lowes. We needed to wrap our water line.. By the end, we had bought a new, shorter water line (Walmart) ,Heat tape and pipe insulation and door weather stripping t shruggs. Then another trip to Lowes for more pipe insulation cause we got the last at Shruggs had. All in all Friday was a long, but intresting day. Oh yeah.. almost forgot. We went to the Tombigbee state park. Thought it would be larger than it is. It was our second choice on campgrouds while I was searching for places. They don't have cable or wifi was the only drawback. It's a vacation spot so many people want to leave the computer and tv behind will chose a place like there. Other than that and the size it's it's a nice little park.

Saturday, we had breakfast at Ryan's, then we did more Geocaching looking, our grocry shopping for the week, plus some because we know that this next paycheck is going to be a bit short, what with Jerry having 5 days off and only three days in it. after putting the grocries away, we did the laundry. All the blankets and sheets needed washed (thanks to the cats)

We finally found one of the caches on Satureday. Jerry was so thrilled to have finally found one.

Sunday we went back to the orginal one we were looking for and still have yet to find it. WE drove the Trace for a bit, It's much like the Blue Ridge parkway and a nice drive. We stopped at the local Natchez trace office. They have a nice mural on their walls. I wish they have shown more of the women of the area.

Black Friday

Gee. I had no plans on shopping Black Friday but Jerry has.. and I get to tag along.  That's ok. Since it's Walmart and they are open I can pick up a few things I needed anyway.  I need dog food, some large clamp like paper clips and I'll cruse the clothes for large women while I'm there. He'll be in the back at Eletronic's.

Pumpking Cake

Wow, I just made this in my tabletop oven (roaster oven) and it's really great. So simple as well.

What you need, 1 box of spice cake mix. Any brand but I used Dunkin Hines. and 1 can of pure pumpkin. Not the pumpking pie filling but 100% pumpkin.. That's it;

I lightly sprayed two foil baking pans from the dollar store. they are just the right size for this.  preheated the oven to 350F.  Mixed the pumpking with the cake mix and poured into the pans. set them in the oven and baked for 35 minutes. I checked at 25 minutes and my toothpick did not come out clean, so I added 10 minutes, as the toothpick was really damp.  That 10 minutes was just perfect.  Toothpick came out clean. removed from the oven. and set on counter to cool.  We had just finished dinner and we had a large piece each for dessert.

November 23, 2010, Beef Sausage

For Today... November 23 2010.

We are under clouds today with a good chance of rain this morning but after that a quick clearing and a high in the low 70's again today. The cold weather was suppose to be here Thurdays but now it's going to be Friday that is sooo cold (if you can call a high of 45, cold)

I went to dollar tree last night and spent just over $20. A couple of Christmas items to decorate with, some foil pans to be able to bake in. A bag for the kittens to play with, and a bath mat. The Bath Mat was on my list of want to buy that I made a bit ago. I've been slowly but steadly able to remove items from that list. of course, More things go on the list but that's what it's for. Those things you think about, then forget you need, until you really need it.

The kittens and the dogs have been playing together. The kittens have figured out they can bat at Macon's tail.. and they also love to pounce on it, when it's moving. With Macon, that's almost all the time. This morning, two of the kittens went out the door and one was under the van. I had to open a can of catfood to get them to come back into the camper.

I'm think I better get up and start cleaning the camper because I expect that Jerry won't work the full 10 hours today. Seems a few of the fellows decided to leave last night to go home for Thanksgiving and the rest may leave early today.

Yep, I was right, he got off at 3:30. The dogs have done much better on their walks today. Although we didn't go as far there was little pulling. Conviencing them that not every tree is there for them to pee on... that's another story. I try to keep to dogs away from anything obviously man made, and when it comes to tree, to stay away from trees that were planted and not just wild growth. So far that is going fairly well. A good strong "NO" and they leave it.. or I'll just say "Leave It" and they look at me confused and come away. Yesterday afternoon was just not a good day for Rocky. He Just got all hyper and kept getting in Macon's way of going potty. So instead of him going for "our" walk. he got put in the kennel and I walked Macon so he could potty. Then we walked the driveways around the campground. Macon did so much better. I was even able to pick up our mail without him barking at the man who handed it to me. What an improvment over the last couple of times I tried to talk to anyone with both dogs with me.

With Jerry off work for the next 5 days. I'm going to see if he'll walk Macon and I'll walk Rocky alone and see if that helps straighten out the problems. I did go to the website my Brother recomended and the first problem I have is I have no place at all to work off leash with the dogs. No fenced in area. We have to have them on leads when we go outside the camper. We do work with a lot of Sits and Stays and I do take treats with us, sometimes but not all the time.

Crock pot Apple Butter

Crock Pot Applebutter

I was going to post a picture of this as I made it.  I forgot and left my camera in the van last night.

I peeled up enough Red Delicous (sp) apples to fill my crockpot. Before I started that though, I added a cup of apple juice and a big splash of lemon juice and turned it on.  I washed tha apples as I peeded and cored them and cut them into chunks. I put the lid on and let them cook for 2 hours before stiring the first time. put the lid back on and let them cook another hour and stir another hour.  I then stirted again and they were breaking up well. Adding 1/4 cup Molasses (eyeballed it) 1/2 cup Brown Sugar, 1 teaspoon Salt and let that cook for an hour with the lid on. Removed the lid, and added in 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon, 1 teaspoon Ginger, 1 teaspoon Nutmeg and 1 teaspoon Poppy Seeds.  Let that cook with the lid off until it starts to thicken.. Taste, if it's not sweet enough add white sugar, 1/4 to 1/3 cup at a time, until it's just the right sweetness for you.   From here, I will store in the fridge in a recycled jar I have. I know you can waterbath to keep it but we eat it so fast that I don't have to put it away.

Doesn't Rocky look comfortable with all these kittens around him?

Good Morning. Jerry got off after 8 hours again yesterday and we did some looking around. We ended up over by the Bankcorp Arena looking for a eletronic recycle I thought I heard about on the tv. it wasn't there. A basketball game was about to start. Memphis against Louisanna. We didn't stay. We just drove around a bit after that. Jerry wanted to see where the road his job is on, goes to. So we followed it a bit. The night before, we followed the road that leads tothe road the campground is on for a bit. We see a lot of traffic on it once you get off the 4 lane and thought it went someplace.. well, yeah.. residentual areas and a country club. Ha ha. Another change... Now he'll have 5 days off work. I asked if the guy in charge ever worked for BE&K since it's very much like them in having a hard time deciding how many days everyone will work around a holiday. I bet Christmas will be just as hectic. This is one reason we don't make plans to visit anyone on the holidays. We just never know until the last minute how many days Jerry may get off.

While walking the dogs yesterday, I fell. I knew it was going to happen one of these days. I wasn't hurt, just went down on my knees (again) So I was stiff and soreish the rest of the day. I was on wet grass, on a slight slope and just as I started to slid the dogs also pulled.. They "Knew" I wasn't happy after that. I didn't hit them. but they Knew from the tone of my voice that they didn't help me any with that pulling that we had been fighting almost all the walk. Going back to the camper, they didn't pull much at all. There isn't a flat place to walk them so it's just something I have to be more aware of, is all.

(8am) Just finsihed peeling apple for Crockpot Applebutter. Got them and a splash of lemon juice and a cup of apple juice in the crock now. in about 4 hours, I'll stir and see how mushy they are.

Outside my door ... Going to be another nice day, according to the tv. High in the low 70's. May have clouds all day, though, not sure yet. last nights full mooon was lovely. Did you see it? it looked so large as it rose above the horizon. I then read that it is a Blue Moon. But not the usual about the blue moon of being the second full mooon of the month but about it leading to having 13 moons this calendar year.

Jerry found a Vanity Plate he wants to get for the Van. It says. "Get Off the Phone And Drive!" I love it.

The dogs ... Are being good. Well, almost. Macon got so excited to go out first this morning that he jumped out the door before I had his lead on him.. He came right back in and put his head through the choke chain collar we use.. but he "knew" he was in trouble and when he came back from his potty break and went straight into his kennel. Rocky was about just as excited but he waited for the collar befor running outside. First potty is just to the trees behind the camper. Walking come around between 9 am. and 10 am.

(10am) Just got back from morning walk. It was a fight all the way.. all the way to the potty area, all the way around the outside driveway and all around the inside driveway. It was pull them back or pull them faster. It was also a fight to get Macon to "hold it" until we got to a different potty area. He finally got the idea, but then Rocky didn't want to walk to the inside and I had to fight him over that, then pull Macon along, the pull Rocky back to his "place" the pull Macon again.. then pull Rocky again. They finally realized they were on my last nerve and we finally got to that potty area.. and he went in the weeds like he's suppose to. I have to do this again, this afternoon. Yikes. I sure hope the dogs figure out I'm not playing around.

The Kittens ... Two of them slept with Jerry most all night long. None of them slept with me, last night. Sometime yesterday, one of the found the TP and unrolled most of it onto the floor. They are sooo nosy. I have had to rebag several things I have on the kennels from where they have "explored" whats in the bag. right now. two of the kittens are asleep on Rocly's Kennel. The other two are playing "King of the Pillows" on my bed, jumping to Jerry's bed, then back to my bed, jump off, racing down the hall, jumping on the edge of the tub, racing back down the hallway and jumping at the couch (Missed) now going through the two bags holding our colas, by the door.. race back down to the bathroom... and so on.

From the kitchen...(7am) As soon as I finish this, I'm going to peel up some apples we picked up and start a crockpot of apple butter for Jerry. We both like it and it will go great on biscuits on Thanksgiving Morning.
(10am) Stirred the apples. They are doing great and smell wonderful even without the spices in it yet.
Think Dinner will be Ham, and mashed potatoes and salad.

I am hearing...(7 am) weather forcast on the tv. Thanksgiving day is going to be much colder as a front goes through. The kittens jumping and running and playing. Macon snorring.
I am wearing... Maroon Sweat pants, a printed top. I told Jerry, I keep forgetting when we got to Walmart that I wanted to find a couple of new tops. He said yeah, he forgets as well.

EVERYDAY SUGAR COOKIES

EVERYDAY SUGAR COOKIES
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon milk
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift flour and baking powder.
Add half of the flour mixture, stir in milk and vanilla, then the remaining flour mixture. Mix only until combined.
Cooks Tip: Flour absorbs more or less liquid at different times of the year or due to humidity in the atmosphere or type or quality of the flour. You may
need to adjust by adding more flour than is called for (or more liquid) to get the right consistency of dough for easy rolling. A general rule in all baking
is to add a few tablespoons of flour at a time when your recipe is too sticky, or a few teaspoons water when your mixture is too dry or crumbly, until
your mixture is just right for what you're making.
Keep in mind that adding more flour will make a heavier and drier cookie, so add flour sparingly, only if needed. After refrigeration, more flour is absorbed
and this can help make rolling out easier, too, which is why cookie dough is often refrigerated.
Wrap mixture in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours or more before rolling out 1/4-inch thick on a lightly floured work surface. Cut into shapes.
Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon sugar or grated nuts, if desired.
Variations: Adjust the taste of the cookie dough as you prefer it; you may want to substitute lemon or orange flavoring for the vanilla extract, or various
kinds of flavored liqueurs. Some vanilla brands bake off and leave behind little flavor; if you're using one of these, or old vanilla, you may want to
add 2 tsp. instead; you be the judge. Never use artificial vanilla - use only good quality brands.
Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly golden on edges of cookies (depends on size). Decrease oven temperature if cookies
are browning too quickly.

*** Billie's notes
I don't have much space to roll out cookies, but I mixed together 1/2 cu sugar, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon Ginger and 1/2 teaspoon Poppy seeds.. mixed well together. dropped a small spoonfull of dough into the sugar, rolled it around a bit, then put on the cookie sheet. Bakes for 10 minutes at 350F.

November 20, 2010 Good Morning

For Today... November 20, 2010
Good Morning.
(10am,) Just got back from the morning walk, and some dog training. The man who feeds the horse was getting it's feed from the shed and I made the dogs sit and watch without noise. We did get to speak before Macon started to bark.  I can't take the dogs to the trees behind the camper today as the camper on that side has someone visiting, with dogs. Not going to risk a dog fight. Have to wonder when the dog is tied up to a tree outside but is in the truck just how bad a dog is it?  We ate at the Mall last night.. Oh boy.. didn't know what we were getting in to.  Seems that Santa was due any time when we got there. We had Chick fil a. It was ok. There was music playing. Mostly Christmas while everyone was waiting for the man in the red suit. I had to wonder though, what Sweet Home Alabama has to do with Christmas in Mississippi.  It was the last song played before "Here comes Santa Clause" was played. We walked around a little and Jerry picked up a new pair of work boots. I asked him for his old boots. It will be spring before I "need" them for an idea I have of planting them with a couple of flowers and putting them by the doorway. I want to put moss rose in one and marigolds in the other. I also wanted the box the new boots came in. I'll have to pull it back out of the van as well.  I have a bit of loose stuff over my bed that could go into that box and clear up some space. Jerry didnt think about that.

He loved the cake I made yesterday. Wants me to make more like it.  Next time I may add some cocoa to it.
I have a recipe I want to try today. As soon as I finish writting this I'm go mix it up. If it turns out like it should,I'll post it this afternoon.

Outside my door ... Oh so nice.. The sun is shining and it's just the right tempature to walk outside without a jacket on.

The dogs ... Had their walk this morning, did some stay training and then they got the treat of some spilled dry cat food. The Kittens spilled it on ROckys kennel and since it wasn't much and they did fairly well with this mornings walk, I brushed it off onto the floor for them to seek and find. They loved it.
The Kittens ... are playing hard. from the Bathroom to the Living room (all 3o foot or so of inside space) they are racing, jumping and pouncing on each other, the dogs' rope. Me.. what ever is in the way.
From the kitchen...  Dinner will be Hamberger patties with Chili on top. After we eat we will go food shopping. Oh yeah.. Today I'm baking some sugar cookies to see if it's a recipe I want to keep or not.

I am hearing... some movie on the tv, motor coaches leaving, the fan on the heater. the dogs bark every now and then and the kittens trompling through the camper.

I am wearing... light grey sweat pants and my wild and free tshirt.

I am reading... recipes and emails

CORNEY COOKIES

These candy-topped treats are a blast for kids to help decorate for your feast -- or a Thanksgiving school party. You can use the sugar cookie recipe here or store-bought dough.

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Vanilla frosting
Green fruit leather
M&M's or Reese's Pieces candies

DIRECTIONS:

Using an electric beater, cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix well. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix in the flour a little at a time until the ingredients are well combined. Chill the dough for several hours or overnight.

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Divide the dough into 3 parts. Working on a floured surf ace with one part at a time, roll out the dough to a 1/4-inch thickness. Using a knife, cut out corncob shapes about 4 inches long. Place the cookies on ungreased baking sheets and bake for 9 minutes or just until the edges brown. Let the cookies set on the sheets for about 2 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frost the cooled cookies. Next, use kitchen shears to cut husks from the fruit leather to fit the sides of each cookie. Press the husks in place atop the frosting, with the tips down a bit. Now fill in the middle with candy kernels gently pressed into place. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen cookies

Jerry just had to snap this picture, He had just gotten up and Rocky jumped into his side of the couch.

For Today... November 19, 2010

Good Morning. Whew, what a morning. Jerry mis-placed his wallet. So the search was on.. We knew he had it, in the van, last night, after we did some shopping. It was in the van. Then he realized he left his phone in the camper when he walked back to the van to search it again.. so I had to walk back to the van, get it and take it back to him.. then back to the camper. I feel like I got in my morning exersize already. We picked up a roaster last night. And I broke a part off of it already. It "says" it has a lid holder. I was thinking it held the lid up and down.. not off to one side. It's not very convient to have the lid "hanging" off to one side. There is still a lid holder on the other handle but I doubt I'll be using it all that much. I just don't have that much counter space. Would be much better if I could just put the lid on a holder on the back. Oh well. The other one we looked at didn't have that either.
The reason we went to the store was that the gasket to the hand held shower went missing. I take the shower part off to spray water into the John to clean it. If you've ever seen a marine Toliet you know what I mean when I saw it takes a bit of water to clean it. But it does the job and is fairly easy to clean.
I also picked up some knitting needles and yarn. Something to keep my hands busy while watching evening tv. Not sure who I'll make a scarf for, but I plan on making a scarf with the yarn.

I got to talk the Heather last night for a bit. She's been busy. she has to work Wed. night and her plan is to start her turkey when she gets off work. She does not have to work Thanksgiving day. Maybe she'll get to sleep, once dinner is over with. I do so remember the times I was that busy, and that tired.

Outside my door ... (7am) We were suppose to wake up to Fog, but it's clear outside. A bit cool but not too bad. It's suppose to be cool this time of the year.

The dogs ... (7am) First potty out of the way. They didn't even bark when Jerry opened the door. I didn't hear him walk up, even. Of course they wanted to "Help" find what ever it was that was lost, and wanted to go out, because I had my jacket and was going out. I had to get them to move from the door so I could get back in. Now that all the "excitment" of looking for the wallet is over with, they are fast asleep, on My Bed.

The Kittens ... (7am) Smoke and stripes are asleep by my side. I'm guessing Fuzzybutt and Kid are sleeping with the dogs, now that the hallway races are over with. They also had a rousing game of king on the mountain this mornig. The "mountain" being Jerry's pile of pillows on his bed.

From the kitchen... I over baked the biscuits this morning,I had my back to them and was wondering what I smelled burning.. then it dawned on me.. the biscuits in the toaster oven.
Pay day. We eat out. Jerry is hopeing to find out where Barnhill's is around here. It's a buffet style place much like Ryan's and Golden corral.

I am hearing... Morning News and the heater's fan.

I am wearing... (7am) blue house dress. (10am) brown Sweat pants and a top with small maroon flowers on it.

I am reading... recipes and emails

I am thankful for... Jerry being able to work. For finding his wallet this morning.

I am hoping... To do some clothes shopping soon. I don't have many fallish clothes. Summer light weight and Winter sweats but not any long sleeved yet not hot tops. Would love to find another pair of shoes as well.

I am creating... Going to start a scarf soon.

One of my favorite things... Sitting with Jerry in the evenings.

A few plans for the rest of the week... Shopping for Thanksgiving dinner (for 2) I have a grocry list, I need to update it.

No Bake cookies, Potato candy, Apple Butter.

As I stated in my other post. Beth needs a couple of recipes from me. I send them to her each year and each year she loses them. The first, No Bake cookies, I've been making since I was a kid. Gee, that means the recipe is over 45 years old. I've seen many versions of these the last few years but it's so funny how they never seem to grow old like some recipes do. The Potatoe Candy recipe, I found in m Mom's recipe box but we never had it growing up, at least not that I can recall. I don't think Mom was a huge fan of coconut. As for the apple butter... I have never really followed a recipe for it. I knew apples.. a mix of apples is better than just using one kind of apple.. a tart Granny Smith, a Roma or two and a couple of Red and or Yello deliouse apples. some brown sugar, spices and let it cook down.. that's "my" recipe but Beth needs more structure than that. She needs measurements. I asked in one of my chatty groups for recipes and hope to get them soon because I like trying out someone else's recipes as well

November 18. 2010, Cheese Ball,

No, Im not mad in this picture. Just as it was snapped, one of the other kittens clawed my leg. Smokey loves sitting on my shoulder. I like hearing him purr. but kittens grow up and get heavy.

Good Morning. Looks like a coolish/warmish day with high around 62F. but also a dampish start to the day today. Morning fog should burn off by 9 am though. Jerry and I seem to be on different tempature paths. He was cold when he came in and took a long time to warm up.. so long that I was too hot before he agreed to turn the heaters back down. Of course, I had been cooking and was by the stove where it's warmer. I'll have to remember to turn on the heater in the bathroom before he gets home tonight. It doesn't have a tempature control. Just low, medium and high but no other way to regulate the tempature. I usually turn it off around 7 am. or after my shower. I want to pick up one that I can just have turn off when it gets warm enough. Our heater in the living room has a tempature regulator. Outside my door ... A few high clouds but it looks like its going to be a very nice day. I think it's going to be a bit foggy this morning but once that burns off it's going to warm up and have plenty of sunshine.

The dogs ... Are being tormented by the kittens. Macon is still trying to figure out a way to "Play" with the kittens. He wants to pounce on them and his feet are so large that it isn't safe for him to do that.. but the kittens have discovered his tail. That his tail moves.. and they will pounce on that.. So brave are the kitties, playing with a very large (to them) dog's tail.. then they run away when he looks at them. Yesterday I found all 6 of the animals sleeping on my bed. Two of the kittens were curled up by Rocky but none were very near Macon. Last night Macon and Rocky were trying to sleep with Jerry, until the kittens tried to join. Rocky came over to my bed and two of the kittens followed him over. Yesterday, on our afternoon walk. The dogs found a small piece of wood and we played keep away for about 15 minutes. I left the wood there so we may try to play Keep away again this morning. I may put one of the balls in my pocket to carry with us and play with this morning. It still turns into, keep the ball away from the fat lady, instead of my tossing the ball and Rocky or Macon bringing it back to me.

The Kittens ... As I said in the dogs post.. they are teasing and tormenting the dogs with much delight. They are catbox broke or bathtub broke. Still have at least one who is using the bathtub as his potty place. At least it's easy to clean up when it's there. Ugh. I asked Jerry to take the bathmat out of the tub after his shower, but he had trouble with the shower head and didn't take that shower but left the bathmat in the tub.. I asked him about it this morning and he said he'd clean it up... still there and he left for work about an hour ago.. I'm debating leaving it there for him.. Usually, throughout the day, I just go ahead and rinse out the tub while I'm back there.
From the kitchen... Thinking of Chicken and rice bake, in the toaster oven. I made up a box of Chocolate Chip cookies I had yesterday. We had them for dessert. I had Jerry take 4 of them with him to work this morning, leaving me two of them. Not sure what our dessert will be tonight.
I am hearing... Morning news and the fans off the heaters.
I am wearing... (6:30) Blue house dress, tan house socks, red crocks. Will change after a bit into light grey sweat pants and my blue flowered top.
I am reading... recipes and emails.

Beth, my yougest, texted me and asked me to snail mail her a couple of recipes. no bake cookies. Apple butter and potato candy. I'll put them in another post as soon as I send off this one.
I'm still coping recipes from a church cookbook. I found another one I will also copy, once I finish this one.

November 17, 2010, Beef n Cheese Dip, One Great Salad

For Today... November 17, 2010

Jerry had to work a bit later yesterday. Seems that on Monday all but two people (Jerry being one of them) left early and didn't clean up before they left. I asked as he was leaving this morning if he was going to work until 5:30 again today. "MOst Likely" he said.
WE didn't sleep well last night. Rocky was mad because he was in a kennel and kept waking us up, wanting out. Not to potty but to sleep with one of us. Sine he growled at me, for telling him to get into the kennel, he had to stay in it.

Outside my door ... woke up to Fog. Lots and lots of Fog. Now that it's near sunrise, (almost 7 am) it's not as foggy as when I walked the dogs after making Jerry's breakfast. A bit of a breeze may account for that.

The dogs ... See about about Rocky. Macon is in a playful mood this morning and Rocky is being snarky.
The Kittens ... (7am) are running around, getting into everything and chasing each outher up and down the walkway. I had plenty of company in my bed last night as they all discovered how to get into my bed. I woke up to a kitty mosh pit at my feet.
From the kitchen... Jerrry said ham when I listed off what we have in the freezer. We had baked potatoes last night so I'm thinking more along the line of noodles for the starch. Of course we'll have salad.
I am hearing... The heater fan, morning news on the tv. the kitten purring by my leg. I've put it on the floor three times now, for getting on my legs and then latching in the claws.
I am wearing... (7am, before shower) my long blue housedress.
I am reading... recipes and emails.

Behind my neck. Not sure what we are going to name all three of these black kittens.. One may be SnotKoppie (South African for snothead) another may be Fuzzybutt.

For Today... November 16, 2010
Good Morning. Well it's mid morning here. I went back to bed for an hour and now I feel a bit better. My feet and ankles still ache a little from all that walking on Sunday. but I think standing to fold laundry last night didn't help that much either. We brought about 1/2 of it home for me to fold here. I could sit on the bed and fold and put away at the same time. Jerry was falling asleep while waiting and he's so hard to wake up that I suggested he just dump two of the dryers worth into our tubs and take them to the van, I'll fold them at home. Which, surprisingly, I did. Got them all folded and put away and the beds made, even. I washed the sheets and the blankest as well.
Outside my door ... Whew did we get rain last night. I was woken up often with it just pouring down. Now, it's really cloudy and overcast but the rain has stopped. The ground really got a good soaking this time.

The dogs ... Did really great this morning with our morning walk.. Another lady brought her dog to the area I had ours and she kept getting closer to us. I moved us off.. it was a bit before Macon saw the other dog, Then he barked but I made him sit. He was still barking but he was sitting... I know both want to go "meet" other dogs, I just can't handle both of them getting that excited at the same time. I'm fairly sure she was walking a female.
The Kittens ... One still thinks the bathtub is the pottybox. I keep rinsing out the tub when I go back there. When I catch one using the tub, I put it in the catbox. I'm going to start cleaning the box two times a day. (yuck but gotta be done) Oh, they have discovered the yellow balls we have for the dogs.. did you know they move? they roll... and they get pounced on. Here it is. 10:30am and all the animals are asleep. The dogs on my bed, two of the kittens on my jacket on the dogs kennels and two by my hip. They will have to be moved when I get up from filling this in, to clean that cat box out for the morning.
From the kitchen... Pork chops tonight. Not sure just how I'm going to fix them, yet. thinking of baking a couple potatoes in the toaster oven. Salad, of course and most likely jello with fruit for dessert.
I am hearing... Morning news show, motorhomes leaving, kitten purring.
I am wearing... dark grey sweatpants light purple flowered top

I am reading... emails I am thinking... what am I'm going to fix for Thanksgiving. I only have cranberry sauce so far.. got to pick up the rest of it this next paycheck and I have no idea what all I'm going to fix yet.I am thankful for... Jerry having a job. These kittens. they are so much fun to watch.I am hoping... That the 5 days Jerry has off, we get to go do some fun things around here.I am creating... nothing just yet.A few plans for the rest of the week...
making plans for Thanksgiving dinner for two.

I wonder just how warm this stove would have kept a small room. and thewaterpotjust looks so large for this small wood stove but that's how it is. I wonder how many cups of water have been made in that waterpot or tea kettle (how ever you want to call it). Some things look really old around here, and some things look almost brand new.
I've not be up long, but wanted to go through my recipe book I've been posting from and discovered there are a few repeats in the recipes,, and many that I have skipped.. (Oops) Guess I better "fix" that. Most of the recipes I've been posting to different cooking and recipe groups I'm in (Yahoo groups) but then i woul forget to post to my blog. So I'm going back through the recipes and finding those I haven't posted here and will take care of that.

nov 14, 2010

We spent the afternoon at a flea market. I lucked out. I have been looking for a tripod to use over an open fire... I FOUND ONE. for $30. I called Jerry to see if I should get it or not. It's iron and not steel. He was bored and disappointed with the prices on the guns at the gun show.. so he finished going through that part and came over where I was..He carried the box the tripod is in all over the first building then carried it to the van. there were so many puppies for sale.. $500, $400,$200,$500. yikes.. so much for so many.. And most were mixes.. yoriky poo. or cockypoo. We got to see a sugar glider for sale as well. Looks like a mouse or chipmonk on steriods. I saw Bengal kittens for sale as well.. yikes $500 apiece. The humane socity was there and If we didnt already have two dogs, we would have brought one of them home with us. I found a pan that will fit in my toaster oven to bake in.. Jerry got a belt. He broke his a few weeks ago and so I was happy for him to find one that is long enough. Oh, my best find.. is some leather mokasins. Almost like the ones My Grandfather use to make for me.. and I asked if he did work on commision.. yes.. maybe. I explained that I want Apachie boots, but I don't want the 6 to 8 inch fringe on the top, I want 3 inch frings. The skirts I plan to wear with the boots have a narrow hem in them and the longer fringes will put out my stitchings. If he's back in December, I'm going to see if he has a pair that will fit me. I just didn't have the $$$ this week. He only wants $65 for the style I'm talking about. We walked and walked and walked... and I'm happy to say, I did it all.. this time last year there was no way I could have done that much walking around.

I took this picture a few days ago. I had trouble with uploading pictures, it was just taking way too long. These little furballs are just to sweet to take to the Shelter. there are not any no kill shelters around here.

Macon had one of the kittens spotted on the bookcase. He's still trying to figure out a way to play with them. He wants to pounce on them and his big ol feet are just too big and I'm afraid he'll hurt them so every time he tries I have to stop him.

Nov 13, 2010

Hello. My oh my. We woke up early, no real reason why, just did. Jerry got up so early that he was dressed and cooking his own breakfast when I woke up. Befor he left for work, he even walked the dogs. I waited until he was gone before I let the kettens out of the kennel. Yep, Macon and Rocky got to sleep with us again last night. Oh yuck. I'm going to have to boil our drinking water. I was flushing the john and notice that the water wasn't clear. the more I put in the john, the darker it got.. from a light yellow to a dark brownish color. I noticed one of the guys who works here had just driven in. so I put on a jacket and went looking for him.. bout gave him a heart attack when I stepped around the corner of the shed.. He checked the water and was surprised it was so dark.. but after it runs a bit it starts to clear up a bit.. but still. who wants brown or yellow water? I do have some coffee filters so I can run some water through that then boil at least 5 minutes. That is, if the propane will last that long. When I cooked my eggs earlyer, the flames were turning yellow a sure sign we are getting low in our tank.

November 12, 2010, Baked Beans with Bacon and Red Onion

For Today... November 12, 2010
Good Morning (6:30) The cat box fits in a kennel with room to spare. The kittens stayed in it overnight and were begging to come out when we got up. I'll be letting them out in a while, when I can clean the box, and set it in the closet I want it in. and show them it's there, again. The kennel will not fit in the corner (It tilts to the back) so I can't just place it all together in there. I place a tub over it, to keep the dogs out of the cat poo. The dogs like that the kittens had to sleep in a kennel because they didn't have to. Rocky slept with me most all night, and Macon slept with Jerry. It's going to be another beautiful Fall day. Our high is going to be in the mid 70's and clear skys. Todays' plans are simple. Clean the camper, print out the grocry list, walk the dogs, and wait for Jerry to get off work.
Outside my door ... (6:30) The Sun isn't up, just yet, but there's plenty of light to see that there are no clouds in the sky. We are suppose to get rain over the weekend and the weather will turn cooler after that. There are still plenty of orange, red and yellow leaves in the trees that I can see, outside my window.

The dogs ... (6:30) Are sleeping on my bed. We will take a couple of walks today.
The Kittens ... (6:30) Are sleeping in a kennel. I will clean the catbox and let them out in a bit (11am) I just have to remember, I only have to put them off my lap one more time than they get in it, when I don't want a kitten in my lap. they get right under my elbows and I can't type because they are in my way. We had to come to an "Understanding" about playing behind my neck just a bit ago.. I guess they finally got tired of climbing back on the couch to get behind my neck.. I now have all 4 lined up agains my left leg and hip. sleeping. they must have finally gotting the hint.
From the kitchen... Dinner will be out tonight (it's payday) Not sure where we are going.
I am hearing... The fan on the heater, Morning news on the tv. Rocky barking at someone who just drove in.
I am wearing... (6:30) brown sweat pants and my blue house dress. Will change into a top, after my morning shower. (11 am) brown Sweat pants my purple flowered top, black tenny shoes. My hair is in a pony tail.

I am reading... emails and recipesI am thinking... about all the things I "Need" to pick up from the store and how few I may accually get. High on the list is 6 pillows, and pillow cases to cover them with.I am thankful for... Jerry working and taking care of me. And his tolerance for animals. I am hoping... That Jerry gets off a bit early tomorrow se we can go to a gun, knif and car show. There is also a crafts show in the same area.I am creating... A clean camper for us to live in. Daily cleaning can get so boring but I hate how it looks when it's not straightened up. I'm going to mix up my "to do" list a bit to break up the boredom a bit for the next few weeks. Moving the living room ahead of the bedroom. I hate not making beds when I'm home and if I put cleaning the living room before doing the beds there is a better chance I'll do it all. I'm a bit ocd in that I "have" to follow my list in the order it's written in.One of my favorite things... watching kittens play and romp and learn if the dogs are going to play or bite them.. so far the dogs have been good. Chasing, but not hurting them. Sniffing a few butts though. There is a scent from a tree or area close to the drive in area that is just so nice. It's sweet yet spicy.. and I'm still trying to find which tree or bush makes that scent.A few plans for the rest of the week...
shopping, cleaning, walking, and creating a relaxing place for Jerry to come home to.

November 9, 2010,Summer Baked Potatoe Casserole

For Today... November 9, 2010

The kittens rule !!! At least they think they do.. all they have to do to get one of the dogs in trouble is hiss when one is near them.. (yeah, right) The dogs have retreated to my bed. It's safer there. That is, until the kittens figure out how to get up on it. (Ha ha) Still working on box training. A couple of them have it figured out.. I think.. getting all 4 into the idea, is still on going. At least this morning there wasn't but a wet spot on the couch. I got up in the middle of the night, did what I had to do, then checked in the livingroom. Kittens on Jerry's side and Macon on my side. Not long after, Macon jumped back in bed with Jerry. I am surprised that they didn't cuddle up to Macon's backside since he's so warm. Right now I have one on my sholder, one on my left leg and two trying to pick my pocket. I have a sweatshirt jackt on that I made and put pockets in and they are pulling the bags out of the pocket. Now one is trying to pull the bandana off my head. oops now it's race down the hallway, with one jumping to get on Jerry's bed. one stopped at the trash can, and the other stopped at the water dish. Smokey is still trying to get the bags out of my pocket. The bag is out of my pocket and all 4 are working on it. Now one in the trash, two fighting by my hip and one on my sholder again. (no wonder the dogs are hiding on my bed)Outside my door ... (6:15) The sun is just starting to raise. I took the dogs out already and it's not really that cold out. I do have the water running a little though, because the hose is on the ground and the ground is colder than the air right now. Suppose to be sunny all day with a high in the low 70's. Love it. All the trees have changed color and many have lost their leaves, but there is still lots of color to see while walking the dogs.

The dogs ... are watching the kittens from the safety of my bed.
The Kittens... are still playing, and chasing each other.. oh.. I think three just did a potty run. at least they all ran back there and disappeared into the box.. The only one not in the run was smokey. he's asleep by my leg. I took him back there a bit ago so maybe he's not needing it right now. ( 6:35) time to recharge the battries. they are all asleep by my hip. One kitty mosh pit.

From the kitchen... Need to bring the hamburger out of the fridge. Not sure what I'll make, yet.maybe just hamburgers, with corn and salad. I have chili to make another meal with so I don't have to make two meals out of the one pack of burger.
I am hearing... Morning news, kittens racing down the hall and back. the plastic bag being played with. the fan on heater. (excuse me while I remove a kitten from my computer)
I am wearing... (6:15) Grey sweatpants and my blue house dress will change after my shower this morning. Still the Grey sweatpants but dont know, yet what top I'll put on for the day.
I am reading... going to be reading emails all day long, I'm sureI am thinking... Life is never dull around our home.I am thankful for... Jerry's soft heart and keen eyes. I'm not sure I would have seen the kittens if I had been the one driving.I am hoping... We can find a couple of these kittens a home.I am creating... A cleaner home for us.One of my favorite things... Watching kittens play and watching the dogs and kittens learn to tolerate each other. Last time Rocky was around kittens he would turn over and "invite" them to play with him, but he had known them since birth almost and these kittens dont' have their mom around to help teach them about dogs. The last time was 2 years ago. At Beths home.A few plans for the rest of the week...

For Today... Nov 8, 2010

Good Morning.
My Hubby is a big, big softy. See those 4 kittens on him? It all started with a dog walk.. It was time to walk our dogs and I talked him into walking Rocky and I took them to the area behind the work sheds for the campground because Jerry hasn't been back there, yet. It's very nice back there and the dogs love going back there to "take care of busness". Macon was constantly pulling me and this can not be tolerated as he may pull at a bad bit of the hill and pull me over. So, when we got back from behind the sheds, I told Jerry, You don't have to continue, but I need to walk Macon more so he will learn that pulling me will not work.. Jerry said "OK, I need to go get gas in the van, anyway." I said, "Ok.. take Rocky for a ride, with you" "ok".... and Jerry goes to get his gas and I walk Macon until he stops pulling all the time. I get back to the camper and I start dinner. (dislike time change as it throws off my timing in just about everything for a few days) I keep wondering why it's taking Jerry so long to get back home.. the gas station isn't that far away... He comes in, backs into his parking spot, opens the door and asked me "Can I keep it?" and since I have my hands full, ask him what does he have.. it's a kitten (the grey one in the photo) and then tells me there are 3 more. I have him bring in Rocky and I put him in his kennel, put Macon in his kennel and askJerry if he wants to go get the rest of them. He wants to as they are very close to the busy roadway. Okay.. go get them... Once the grey kitten is taken from them the others seem lost and he's able to catch them all up. and brings them to me.. before he can get out of the van, I ask him to run to the General dollar store and pick up a little pan and litter. Not sure they know what a little box is for just yet. Of course letting the dogs learn that the kittens are off limits is intresting but we have a camper full of critters now. Jerry said something about taking them to the Humane shelter, but I doubt that may happen since we know that they will only have a few days there, at most. I'll have to check to see if it's a No kill shelter or not.. I did ask him to ask around work if any one wants a kitten. I don't know who could do this to these sweet babies. All are active, with good appetites and they get along well with each other. Like I said, the grey one, Now named Smoky, is the ring leader. He's first for everything. the other three are black and one has darker strips, one has white under it's chin and the other has fluffier, longer fur than the others. No way would we leave them to run over by the road. I was surprised they didn't come sleep with us last night. I had to get up around 1 am.. and found them all alseep+++++++++++++++++++++++++++9 behind the cushion on my side of the couch. ( I just had help typing this last sentence)
Ut oh.. Jerry found two potty messes on the couch and is not happy that he had to clean it up. I was cooking.
They were all returned to the cat box.. I had a large tub out in the van that has a split on one side. I was trying to get Jerry to toss things in it to keep them from rolling around.. A collection point of "things" I had him bring it in and he cut a hole in the side so we can keep the dogs out of the cat box. They can get out, not sure they know they are suppose to go in.

Outside my door ...(7am) The sun is up but it's chilly outside. There was frost on the van window. I have yet to winterize our waterhoses. We ran water all night long. We may not have to run the water tonight or the rest of this week. We will get the stuff to keep the hose from freezing this next weekend. (I hope)

The dogs ... are excited and upset that Jerry found the kittens and they are eating the dog food and the dogs are not allowed to eat the cat food. (ha ha) They have both gotten their nose slapped by kittens this morning but all in all they are quickly learning to get along. The kittens are learning to ingnor them for the most part.

From the kitchen... I cut two steaks off a roast I bought over the weekend and will fix the rest of the roast in the crockpot today. Jerry was not happy with his steak. It wasn't done enough for him, last night and after he nuked it, it was tough. he ended up eating peanut butter on cracker for the rest of his dinner.
I am hearing... morning news and trickling water
I am wearing... (7am) maroon sweat pants and my maroon house coat. Not sure what I'll put on later, yet.
I am reading... emailsI am thinking... This camper isn't large enough for 2 dogs and 4 kittens and 2 humans.. but we wouldn't have it any other way.I am thankful for... Jerry's kind heart. He wouldn't leave them by the road like that.I am hoping... Jerry can find homes for two of the kittens soon.

For Today... November 5,2010

One of many statuettes in the campground

For Today... November 5,2010
Good Morning. After Jerry left for work I went to make a pot of coffee and found my sink is clogged.. Must be some hamberger grease since that's what I fixed for dinner last night. I got a bit of water to move and am now pouring boiling hot water down the sink to wash it all away. Yuck. .Then a bit of dish soap with more boiling water,Yes, I'm also using baking soda and vinegar. I just did that and will follow with one more pan of boiling water
Today is payday.. not sure if we are going to eat out or if I'm expceted to cook something.. if I cook something it will be to open a can of chili and hopfully make some cornbread since that is all I have on hand. I sure hope we go out to eat. Jerry did like what I fixed for dinner last night.. That is after He went through the cupboard and saw that for sure I had already used the hamburger helper earlier this week. Well ya.. I used it either Sunday or Monday. and then laid out what we had eaten the last few days off of only buying three items of meat for 6 days. Oh.. ok. I see. yep.
Oh, I found my blue bandana.. it was behind the "John" soaking wet, which means we have another leak back there.. Oh man.. Jerry is not going to be happy to hear that.
Jerry said he'll have Sunday off.. I'll believe it when I see it.

For Today... Nov 4th, 2010
Good Morning, I hope you slept well last night
I admit it, I tease my dogs every now and then. Last night, Jerry took them for last walk, and to smoke his cigar.. a nice long walk down the driveway, across a bridge and back toward our end of the campground on the other side of a small bubbling brook. Somewhere along the way, they disturbed a cat, It up and ran away. Jerry and the dogs came back and Jerry told me about it.. and I did a little kitten like mew. And both dogs alerted up.. looking for the cat. I really had Rocky going and he got up on the back of the couch, looking out the window trying to find it. We also teased the dogs by pretending to go to bed early. Both thinking they were going to get to sleep in bed with us.. just as we would lay down and turn off the lights, here come the dogs.. We would snap the light back on and they would freeze in place. We did that twice last night. Rocky wasn't too happy to be teased that way. But he forgave us as he ended up sleeping with each of us part of the night last night.
I need to make bread today. I have everything I need and we are out of bread. I may even make two loafes of bread. I have some hamburger left from the other night and so I'll fix it in some mac and cheese and add in the rest of the spagettie sauce I have. I'll cut up the last green pepper we have to add some green color to the meal. I need to make some sort of dessert but havn't thought of what just yet (it's only 6:30)
Today will be straightening up the camper, again. Like dishes and dirty clothes it's always an ongoing process. You know the everyday things like putting the showermat over the side of the tub to dry.. Jerry never does that. Picking up any dirty clothes that are on the floor,, I'm bad about leaving my socks on the floor after I take them off, as does Jerry. sometimes the towels fall of the hook we put them on. I'll hang any damp washrags to dry, over the tub as well. Make the beds, do the dishes, and vacum the floor.. the usual stuff that "someone" has to do to keep it nice and neat in here. Of course add to that the times the dogs have to go outside.. a few short outings and at least two longer walks as much so they can poop without my havning to pick it up, as for the excerzie itself.

Outside my door ... The sun is out and the high is to be in the low 60's Great walking weather with the dogs.

The dogs ... love walking and running and playing in this weather. I think they know that soon it may be too cold to enjoy more than a few minutes at a time outside

From the kitchen... Mac and Cheese with Spagettie sauce and hamburger added to it
I am hearing... The mid day news on the tv and the wind blowing through the trees outside.
I am wearing... brown sweatpants and my eyor shirt
I am reading... emails and recipesI am thinking... I need to print out my grocrie list and high light the stuff I really need on the listI am thankful for... Having a water tight camper to stay in and that we can take it with us now that it's paid off and living in it is good.I am hoping... That we can eat out tomorrow night. Jerry found out that the money that was forwared to us is al coming out on the first check. He was told it would be paid back over 4 weeks. but that changed.. So the plans on paying the bills had to change as well (durn it)I am creating... A pleasant place for us to live in.One of my favorite things... near the driveway to the camper is a scent in the air from the trees. .I don't know what it is but it's very spicy and sweet smelling.A few plans for the rest of the week... shopping, laundry and sitting
