The last picture I took, with Macon in it. He hated it when I would take a picture of him.

His last day, he played with Liam, letting Liam spray him with water. He could have gone to another room, but didn't.

09 19 23

I'm sitting out on the porch, again. Hubby puxks up our two Grandsonx and takes them to their home.
The older one has a bell at 2:45 and it take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes to get to the car. G'Pa then drives around to get the younger one, who
The youngest gets out at 3pm. It only takes a few minutes to get them home.
At 3 pm. I take pur two dogs and wait for Hubby to get home.  Each afternoon, I have noticed that the shadow from the trees across the road are creeping closer to the porch each day.  It may be 85F tight now, but soon I will need a light jacket for this small task.

Pops is Home.

They get So Happy, when he turns into the driveway. Jumping and dancing and vying for his attention. They are so happy to see him. They almost trup him as he goes up the ramp and they have to be chastised to give him room to get to the top.

09 06 23 morning musings

It is now early morning, just before sunrise.
The sky is much lighter than the tops of our surrounding mountains. A few  dark clouds float by, just catching the first colorful pinks, violets,  faint orange and yellows of the raising sun. Leading in the pre-dawn,  a shower, a rain that we need to wash the dust out of the air.
The birds are waking up from their nightly slumber. And soon the sounds of their calls will fill the pre-dawn silence. Morning doves distinctive calls are louder than the rest. But the chirps, whistles,  tweets and caws make it impossible to turn over and fall back to sleep.
The sound of the rain on the tin covered roof is adding it's sound to the day. It's low rumble distinctive and yet comforting on this morning.
Yes, the humidity will be up, yes, it will be hot, and yes, it will be uncomfortable and feel like we are swimming through the air as we go about our day.

I now se a bit more pink in the edges of the clouds that are  breaking up, as the rain ends and people start their day.

09 05 23

As I sat outside, just after dark, I was anused by the sights and sounds of the evening.

The two dogs needed out for a few minutes.anf one of us will usually sit with them, to keep an eye on them and keep them out of trouble.
The first thing I noticed was a few lighting bugs, on the pirch. Soon they will no longer be seen but watching their aerial dancing amoung the stems and flowers of the flowers at the edge of the pirch, placed a smile on my face. Knowing that, soon they will not be seen again until next Spring.  God flowers were cl8sing up, for the night and will bloom again in the morning.
As the dogs were searching for scents along the edge of the porch, the large leaves of the "Elephant Eats" danced and swayed to the slight breeze brought on by the already set sun. Hidden behind Fredonia mountain to our west. The sky only a bit lighter in color than the ridge that hid the Sun. The few, high clouds had already lost any sunset colors they may have had and were just a darker shade of gray in the darkening g sky.
I could hear a few noises of the night. Most of the birds have settled down for the night. A few calling to each other much like a family calling out to each other, "Good night, see you in the morning".  A dove is close by, a loon is somewhere close by. A cricket or two not far away, maybe even under the pirch, chirping away. A Cicada "singing" as the light fades into darkness.  Rhe dogs across the street playing, barking when they hear our own dogs play in the yard before I bring them back into the house. The large dog at the end of the block adding his bark into the mix.
Our cat wonders into sight, ready to come back into the house and yet stops to tease the dogs, sitting just beyond their reach and looks over his shoulder in the direction he just came from. I can just see another cat, sitting in the weeds at the edge of the other side of the street as if asking him, are you going to come back and play some more"?
Our cat rushes in and heads to the back, where his food dish is, eats a few bites and then demands to be let back out once wr are all back inside.
A frod of road can be heard and is answered by another. Thrumming in a conversation only they understand. I'm guessing g they have found a water source that attracts bugs and are looking for more relatives to join them.
In the distance I hear a door bang shut as the voices of children who have been playing outside are called into their homes. Done playing for the night. I see a few light turn on or off. As people are going in and getting ready to sleep, for mornings'light is only a few hours away and there are still things that need to be done before going to bed for the night

09 05 23

Ah, September.  The transient month from Summer to Autumn.
I felt the Big sigh, a couple of weeks ago, as August hit its mid-point. The Big Sigh is a coronation  of smells and sense of the trees  changing from their leaves being green to changing to their more natural colors. Oh I know that the color change is still a while before it starts, but there is just a hint of a scent. A slightly dusty hint, a bit misty, almost floral scent that remi ds me of a bit of a melancholy feeling that Summer truly is winding down and the trees are ready to go to sleep for a while.

Soon the scents of fall will really fill the air. The last cutting of hay, laying in the fields to dry before being baled and stored to fees livestock through winter. Burning leaved, and wood to clear up and clean the yards for one last time. Lawnmowers last ru.n liver the lawns before being put away for winter. Flowers last burst of blossoms, turning into seeds to drop, ready to wait until early next Spring and new growth and renewal.

12 12 21 what Rascal barked at

This is what Rascal was barking at. He was not happy at all,  that I had put it in the window.
