We went to Cleveland to cash Jerry's check. Ate at a hole in the wall restaurant that was very nicely decorated inside with lots of mule and horse stuff. Skinned my knee on a bench on a wagon spring going to the cash register. We both had omelets. I asked for a side of bacon, but she mis-understood what I wanted and thought I wanted the bacon in my omelet.  I asked if they had pancakes. No, but they had French Toast. Jerry said that sounded good so he got that.
Got his check cashed with little trouble. He had to go inside and the only lobby open on Saterday is the one in Cleveland, so he took the day off of work. (he was frusrtated and he needed this day off)
From there we headed back toward the camper.  A over head warning sign said there was a crash at mile marker 41 and we should take another route. So we took off at exit 33, cause we know that Tennessee 11 goes through to Niota, but it's slow and has lots of lights. We got back onto the interstate at Exit 44. No traffic behind us. so it had to be a very bad wreck.
We made a stop at the camper to let the dogs go pee, and Barney got away from Jerry, chasing one of our own cats. One of the ladies below us caught him for Jerry.
It's too nice a day to stay in door, so we took off again. I wanted to see The Cherohala Skyway
"The Cherohala Skyway was opened and dedicated in 1996. The road has been designated a National Scenic Byway. The road cost over 100 million dollars to construct. The Cherohala Skyway crosses through the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee and the Nantahala National Forest in North Carolina. The name "Cherohala" comes from the names of the two National Forests: "Chero" from the Cherokee and "hala" from the Nantahala. The Cherohala Skyway is located in southeast Tennessee and southwest North Carolina. The Skyway connects Tellico Plains, Tennessee, with Robbinsville, North Carolina, and is about 40+ miles long. The Cherohala Skyway is a wide, paved 2-laned road maintained by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The elevations range from 900 feet above sea level at the Tellico River in Tennessee to over 5400 feet above sea level at the Tennessee-North Carolina state line at Haw Knob."
We didn't go all the way, but turned around after Bald River Falls.
It was a great short drive in into the mountains. I got my "Mountain" fix. It was just great to be going uphill along side a shallow river. I could spend the rest of my life there and be at peace, that's for sure.
Next time, expecally if we go next weekend. We are taking our swimming clothes and water shoes with us. And the dogs since they love getting in the water.
After we turned around, we headed back to Sweetwater. We stopped at Engels for our food shopping. We spent just over $70, mostly for fresh vegetable and fruit. of course we also had to pick up things like bread, cheese and cola's for the two of us.
We plan on going to Wal-mart tomorrow to pick up pet foods and a few other things. There's a Shoney's in Athens and we will most likely have breakfast there.
