"We Gather Together"
We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known.
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing.
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.
Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!
We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender will be.
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
I remember singing this when I was a small girl, in church. It was a rare day that my Mom went to Church. Being a single mom, she felt like she was out of place and being judged.. and in the 1960's that is most likely very true. The church we went to though, Didn't hold that against us kids. We were picked up most Sunday mornings by the Gobble Family and returned to home by a different family. Mom used the time we were out of the house to renew her own spirit in her own way. She also made a large dinner for us. Using the left-overs for meals for the rest of the week. She did bulk cooking on Sunday's so she could get dinner on the table easier and faster during the work week.

I haven't heard that hymn in years! Thanks for the reminder! :)
Those are some really lovely Sunday memories... Your mom did her very best, and that's all anyone can ask of a woman. She sounds like a great lady!
