update

Well, another week has gone by with no phone calls.  We 'know' there are jobs out there. We know that he'll get a call. We just don't know when.  He did make a couple of calls yesterday. he went to a new job starting here in town that KBR is doing, and put in his name. They don't need electrical just yet. The lady took his name though and said she'd call him if she needs him. (story of our life right now)  Jerry keeps checking Craig's list and a couple other Job sites. I can tell it's starting to stress him out. He keeps saying that part of it is his age (56 isn't old) because places want to hire 25 year old who don't have much experence but plenty of energy.

What is a Geocache??

A few friends have been asking "What is a Geocache?"

It's a hidden container with a log and may be very small (nano) up to a large tupperware sized plastic container or ammo box sized container that not only holds a log but also a few trade items or trinkets and travel bugs.

To read more about it, go to http://www.geocaching.com/

To be more precise, it's a scavenger hunt with no prizes except your own pride in finding the hidden cache and signing the log. You use a GPS system to locate each cache. You also need a computer but since your reading this blog, I'll say your half way to your first cache.
The easiest way to start is to go to the seek and  hide section of the Geocache site. ( http//www.geocacheing.com   ) (if that don't work, remove the ing ending and try again, doing this from memory and I have the site bookmared so I don't have to type it in each time ) anyway....

 your going to seek a cache so scroll down just a little bit and enter in your zip code or you can use your address. below that is a range of 100 miles.. i suggest that you lower that to around 10 miles of your zip code.  Now that range is based off the post office not your home. So if your more than 10 miles from your post office, you may want to use your address or if you know your GPS coordinates for your home you can enter them in on the site and it will then go to a list of Caches in your area. If you don't have a GPS there isn't a reason you can't find a site, if you know your town well enough. Many of the descriptions will give you a good idea of just about where one may be hidden. Be careful of parks though since many are hiden in out of the way places near the edges of the woods or boundry of the park. But we have found a few just from the description. Like the one at the sign of the "Pic-N-Sav". There is only one sign for it so we knew it had to be around that sign some where, and it was.

Be sure to read what size your looking for. A nano can be the size of a pencil eraser, and could have a magnet on one end and stuck up underneath on a metal surface. A small can be the size of a pill bottle, or matchstick case. Be sure to read if it's camouflaged or not as well. Remember they are suppose to be hidden from the casual passerby. There is one we kept going back to look for over and over while in Tupelo.  If we had not gone to the Geocache tent and seen some of the ways things are hidden we would have never guessed it was that item. And Jerry being an Electriction didn't even catch it either. I was lucky to have remembered seeing a similar item on the table. I'll post a few of our finds when we get a better connection and I can upload a few pictures to my blog.

I have over 70 finds and out of all the caches we have gone looking for, have only been asked one time, what were we doing?

Of course there are a few "rules" to hiding a cache. they are not to be buried or at least not to deeply. Can be covered with a rock or piece of wood to blend in.  Can be in a cematary but not under a headstone. can be behind one, though.  Have to be able to reach it without climbing too high. (not sure about that one at the community college in Tupelo, have to move a bench to reach into for that one, we didn't get that one) Can not be on public school grounds. Can be on privet property, but only with permission.  You must ask for permission to put in a park from who is running the park wether it's a city or state park.

I know it seems like a lot of rules but that's ok. Cause I'm not looking to hide any, yet. And they all make good sense.  I'm not fond of cemetery caches, unless there is a historical site as well. I know I would not like one at the cemetery out by the farm as it's a small, family cemetery. But a city one is a bit different. Just be respectful of where you are.  And it's asked that, if possible, to remove any trash if you find some along the walk to the cache. Being a good ambassador for the game that way.

 There are several good GPS units out there and each are a bit different to use. We have a Garmin. The Magellan we have does not work right any more. I think because it's older, and needs a new chip or something.  I like that we have a hand held unit that is accurate up to about 15 to 20 foot of where a cache is said to be.

When I told my daughter about it, she looked up her home town and said she may be able to find a couple without the GPS with the kids.

. May 25. 2011

Good Morning.  Yesterday was really dark for me. I am fighting depression. Depression is a dark monster that works and wears a person down to a nub. It's uglyness just grinds and grinds away at me and after a while I have to give in and let it take over for a little while before I can give it yet another fight. Fight it I must. It will not win. The worry over Jerry not being able to find a job, the stress of saving money so we can move out of here when he does get a job call, and waiting for the phone to ring, and the lack of that call coming in was just too much yesterday.  Even trying to sleep away the heat of the afternoon didn't help me out any. I am only a little better this early morning, (5:30) I can no longer sleep without getting that awful sleep headach so I am up, but trying to be very quiet since Jerry is still asleep, and the dogs are sleeping with him. The cats want out, I don't blame them none, but they can stay in for a little while longer.
Yesterday, I finally took my Osenburg material and made a light curtain for go in the kitchen/bedroom doorway. I just wanted to divid the camper a bit and give a bit of personal space for going to the bathroom or changing clothes. I know Jerry doesn't mean to watch but he does every time I would go to the back no matter what it was I was back there for. It's like being a mommmy again with a toddler who will not let you of out sight, ever.  The hem is a bit slanted or maybe it's the top that's not straight but since it's just the two of us in here, I am not going to pick it out and do it again.  The cat's have already discovered it and climbed up it, played with each other through it and one has even grabbed onto the bottom and used it as a swing. At least I know my stiching will hold.  The rest of the material, I'll turn into an apron for me, I think.  Don't know if I'll do any fancy work on it or not. Depends on how I'm feeling after I get the ties done and the bottom hemmed up.  I don't have any bias tape, at least I don't think I do. I may wait until after the mail runs before starting, and if Jerry's check card gets here, just buy some biased tape, as it's under $2.00 for enough to go around me. If I get two packets of the tape I can make it like the 1790's aprons and go around me, back to the front and tie it. I may do just that. So much easier to untie when it's in front than in back.  I've been thinking of picking up some Yellow check as well. to make another 1790's apron or Fecheu with. I don't look good in yellow, but a little is not too bad, as long as I pair it up with a brigher color.

Outside my door ... Yesterday, was hot, and humid. Today is going to be much the same only with even more humidity. I can't tell if it's the windows are covered with moisture inside or if it's all outside. Maybe it's both.  I really, really need to walk the dogs a couple of times today and get outside for a while, even in the heat.

The Dogs ... Are really enjoying Jerry being home all the time. They rather he walk them than me. He takes longer and lets them get away with more than I do. I will not let them pull me around. Just cause they may want to go to an area does not mean I want them in that area and will not let them change my mind for me.  Macon loves to roll in the grass and will pull Jerry to what ever patch it is that has some scent he enjoys while he rolls.  Of course, they also enjoy Marty comeing outside and talking to both them and who ever is walking them. They love to show off and play fight while the People are talking. After a bit, they get bored with that and then try to get more attentions. Macon is fast learning that barking while I'm talking isn't going to get him the attention he is seeking.

The Cats ... Well, are cats. With the new curtain they have invented a new game to play. Shadow boxing, with one one each side of the curtain. They can see the other's shadow but not tell how close the other cat is to the curtain and will box at any movement. The high-tail chase when they do discover that their opponent is just on the otherside.Jumping on the beds and then across, then back to the bathroom counter, then back onto a bed. down on the floor, under the cortain to the couch, a quick stop, turn and dash back under the curtain... or into it. This can go on for about a half an hour before they are worn out and all lay down and fall asleep. Yesterday, all but one of the animals were sleeping in the floor at our feet. Tupelo (cat) is very stand-offish and stayed on my bed to sleep. She will tollerate our petting her but does not seek it like the other three cats do. Smokey is the adventurer of the four. He will start trouble just to start it. Fuzzybutt is the attention seeker. She will climb up into Jerry's arms while he's playing games on his laptop and just stay there for as long as he'll allow her to. Strips is the inquisitive one. No box or bag is safe from being explored by him. He's got to see what's inside. Fuzzybut will join him in looking into things. The other day, I had left the door to under the sink open for a bit while I needed to put a new bag in the trash can. I didn't realize one of the cats had getting in while I had the door open. she was in there for over an hour while I was looking for her. Finally, one of the other cats, nosed at the door and she meowed, letting me know she wanted out. I guess she had looked into every nook and cranny before she got bored with being in the dark under the sink. when I opened the door, Striped tried to go in while Fuzzybutt came out. If you were to look out our back window, you would see miles of forest. Pine trees mostly but there are other trees as well. oaks and elms are back there. Lots of scrub brush, so thick that it's impossible to see the ground. It's a birds' paradis back there and each morning we wake up to lots of birds singing their morning songs. I hear a Bobwhite or quail almost every morning. We have lots of bats here at night. I love wathing them dive after the bugs around the lights. I've seen a few hawks circling around and around so somewhere there may be an open space for them to hunt.  And I've also heard a couple of Owls at night, as well. I have seen a few blue jays but mostly notice the cardanels playing near the edges of the woods out back. There are some wild Raspberry's and each time I think I'm going to be able to pick a cup of them for my breakfast, the birds have already eaten them before I get out there to get them. I dont mind the birds eating them since I can always buy fresh, clean fruit at a store. It's not like I had planted the bushes and expected a crop from them.

From the kitchen... Tonight will be chicken. It's been down out of the freezer for three days, it's thawed and ready to maranate. I'll mix some dry dressing into some flour to coat the meat before I grill it this evening.  I might crush some crackers instead of using flour, for some extra crunch. Not sure just yet. it's been a while since we fixed any rice and so may have rice for our starch. Jerry gets tired of rice very quickly if I have it more than just once a week.

I am hearing... A few birds are singing. The air conditioner, and one of the cats insists it's time for them to get out of the kennels for the morning. Not yet.. not just yet. Let Jerry sleep a  bit longer. If I let them out now, at least one will wake him up. I'm also hearing the traffic on the road that isn't too far away from the front of the camper. 43 is a very busy road, at times.

I am wearing... right now (6:15) a long blue knit dress. I've had this dress a long, long time and it's very stained up. It's very comfortable though and since I only wear it when I get up or right after a bath as a cover-up, it will do.  I am thinking of looking on-line to see if I can find a couple more ust like it. I've had it for over 6 years now and know it's time to replace it with another long dress that covers me so well. Later, after Jerry wakes up, I'll change into some sweatpants that I've cut into shorts and a white t-shirt top. Already I have stained three of them. But they are just for wearing around the camper and not something I expect to go to town in, so I'm not too sad they already show stains on them. I do wash them with Bleach but that does not get rid of all the stains. I have my hair up in a bun and really do need to take it down and brush it out. All my life I have hated to brush my hair. It's so very curly and just twists into tangles all the time. Even when I braid it, there are tangles to deal with when I brush it out again. I am considering getting it cut again.

I am reading... emails. I need to catch up with them today.

Canine Bliss

Canine Bliss!!!

Doggie kisses warm and sloppy,
And their ears so long and floppy

Rub their tummies; watch them smile.
Cuddle up, with them, a while.

When you leave, a goodbye whine
Left for you ~ is just a sign.

You'll be missed while you're away.
Near the home front they will stay.

A tail is wagged anticipating
For their loved ones, they are waiting.

While you're gone, you can be sure
They will linger by the door.

Puppy's honor, cross their paw;
I do believe it's canine law ...

To wait for you, beside that door,
With all those kisses.  Wait, there's more!

Also, there's a doggie wiggle;
Makes you want to smile and giggle ...

Knowing you've a friend forever
Who will love you, come whatever.

If your pooch is extra kind,
Something special you will find ...

Waiting for you, by the door;
Doggie doo-doo on the floor!

Bow wow bark, canine bliss;
Doggie dance, sloppy kiss ...

A howling serenade, off key.
Home at last, here with me!

Pals forever, 'til the end;
No greater love, no truer friend.

May 14, 2011

Just a few lines. Still on the search for a job. Nothing happened on Friday the 13, so what else is new?

We were Geocache hunting today. we are 5 for 9.. with one iffy. Jerry is checking the Geocache site and a couple havn't been found since 2009. One we went to said it was "Challanging" Even a goat would have had trouble getting to the tree to look so we didn't even try. I did take some pictures of some flowers along the way though. I don't have time to post them now as I'm almost out of my 2 hour limit as it is. Will post pictures when we ever do get moved and have a decent connection again.

For Today... May 10, 2011

Hello,  Jerry is still job hunting.  We are running the air conditioner almost all the time, now. Our high today may even be in the lower 90's. Yuck. Too early in the year for 90's for me.  But I can't do anything about it.  I hope you had a good Mother's Day. Last Saturday, we went looking for about 10 Geocaches.  We found 5 of them. Sunday we found two we couldn't find on Saturday and looked for 4 more, found 2 of them. We are hitting our average of about 2 for 3.
We spent a while on Saturday at St. Stephens Park.  It was well worth the $3 apiece to get in and walk around, looking for the 2 out of three that we know are there, Geocaches. We didn't write down the co-ordants for that third one.  We had the dog with us and they got to get out and walk with us (on leads all the time)  We found the one at the over-look easy enough and I took a picture of the plaque that gave the history of the area.  Very, very intresting for the history buff in us. It fits right in our Living History time line that we have been studying.  Talk about a find !! Too bad the state is consideriing shutting down the park because of lack of funding. Seems a shame that there is no advertizing of this or any other parks outaide the beaches. The "Alabama" Battleship is self susstaining and does not ask for state funding. All the other parks needs the help. We went around to the bottom of the bluff. There is an old "steam" shovel in the water. Not really sure if at one time it ran on steam but it reminded me of the kid's book "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel".  I read that one soo many times to David while he was a toddler that I think we both knew it by heart.  Got to read and hear more history at the little convience store while we bought a couple of cola's.  I really need a better connection so I can find out if our CoHT has an Alabamian group and if so.. if somone would like to host an event at the park. They are much more that willing for an event and expecally if we can go dressed for it.  What a way to spend a weekend.  I would love to, but we really are trying to find Jerry a job, and there are none here or he would already be back working.

We left the convience store and headed back around the bluff, after buying the drinks. and made a stop to go see the "indian bathtubs".  I do think if I had a change of clothes, I just may have jumped into the water, myself. There, pecked out of the stone is a shallow area just perfect for washing up in. I didn't get to go and see how cold the water was though, and it was coming out of an underground spring.  No history of when or why this was made. We "know" there's a cache here, but without recalling any of the clues would have been very frustrating to try to find it. So many great hiding place for one.  I would love to go back and visit again, but next time, I'm wearing pants. I was totally covered with Misquitos while we were walking around the old town excavation area.  At least we didn't find any ticks on the dogs after all our walking around in the wooded areas. Now I wished we had taken a picnic with us, it would have been nice to just find a shady spot and enjoy eating a meal outdoors there.
Sunday, after we went looking for the GeoCaches, we went home and I changed out of shorts and into pants because we had planned on eating at one of the local restruants... guess what. They closed at 2 pm. "What" !!!. I was sooo looking forward to eating there on Mother's Day but eating, "all you can eat seafood" at lunch time is not near as filling as eating it at Dinner time.  Oh well, we will eat there, again, and call it our Mother's Day dinner, just late.  Jerry likes how they season his hamburger steak (I think it's way, way too large for just one meal) The owner comes out of the kitchen and talks to every one, every now and then. Jerry's told a couple of the fellows about the place. It's that good.
I heard from both Girls on Sunday. They are doing well. Didn't hear from David, but that's normal for him.
Yesterday was spent on cleaning the camper and doing laundry. I ended up doing 5 loads of laundry.  One whites, which included the white blanket off Jerry's bed, and when it came out of the dryer the lint catcher was full of dog hair. Then I did a load of lights, then two of darks, including 2 pairs of Jerry's jeans since there was only 2 in the dirty clothes. The last load was the rest of the blankets ( they are all smallish and light weight) Again the filter was full of dog hair. I'll tell you right now. they were so much softer to sleep under, last night. I never reailzed just how rough shed dog hair could be.  Today, we have to make a run into town (2 miles away) so Jerry can go to the career center and pick up some information. I hope we stop at the McDonalds so I can retrieve my emails and send this off. The rest of the day will be basic stuff like dishes and making the beds. Walking the dogs and so on. Even the T.V. isn't much co-operating. All the stations are breaking up and it's just not worth trying to watch.

May 6, 2011

Hello.  Miss me. I miss being able to just log on and write or read any time I want to.

Jerry is job hunting. He's been following every lead he gets but so far he's not heard back from anyone.  He has a couple of places to call this morning.

Still haven't heard anything from Tuscaloosa from our friends. Jerry has to call to make our van payment and then will call in our storage payment so we will know something today.

All the pets are doing well. They are the same ol. same ol.  Each picking on the other and all being taken well care by the both of us.

Not sure what will be for dinner tonight. Most likely hamburger, though.

For Today... May 2, 2011

Good Morning, and Hello.  The news this morning is just filled with the death and life of Osoma Ben Laudin.  How he master -minded the September 11, 2001 world trade towers attack. How he evaded capture for 9 years.  How people "Celebrated"  his death in Washington D.C. and New York City.  I can understand wanting to shout in the streets that he's dead, but I doubt it should be like a happy  Celebration. That would be like the stories I heard right after 9-11 that some Arab people were singing and shouting praise in California and the people who provided the stuff they sold in the store removed all their products.  It's not a "Celebration" like we think of Easter or Christmas being a Celebration.  I don't know that his death is going to change much. He was an old man with many health problems.

Since I  stopped school on 9-11 and had Beth just pay attention to what was going on for that day.  I know how important that he was found, and stopped. I'm sure he wasn't suppose to be killed, but it happened. A burial at sea will stop any of his followers from making his grave a shrine.  I thought it strang that he had a burial at sea. But it sure took care of  a lot of possibliites of using his death as a reason to do much more harm.

Our  weekend was quiet. We didn't go anywhere but to the store and McDonals for internet service.  I took a 3 hour nap on Sunday afternoon so was up late last night. I had a couple of strange dreams. One about trying to get a bunch of girls out of a school building and into a parade formation and they just didn't want to co-operate.

Outside my door ... Cloudy but not cloudy enough for rain.  Jerry was up on the roof trying to figure out why the air conditioner isn't as cool as we think it should be.

The dogs ... Are sleeping at "our" feet. Usually they sleep on the beds. But with Jerry home, they want to be in the same area we are in.

The Kittens ... Are chasing the dogs around, mostly.  Rocky can't seem to take 4 or 5 steps without Fuzzybutt being right under him. Macon has faired a bit better as Tupelo quickly got tired of the game.

From the kitchen... Chicken strips, noodles, salad, butterscotch pudding for dessert.

I am hearing... retro tv on now.. Ironsides is on. If Jerry wasn't home, I'd have the tv off.

I am wearing... Maroon shorts and a white tshirt

I am reading... emails and recipes today

Today I'm grateful for knowing that our President knew what was going on and was able to give the orders to take care of the threat of Ben Ludien. Not that we will know peace, that is not going to happen for a lot longer, I'm afraid. I am not sure why there is such a rift between Christians and Muslims and Jews.. it just seems all small compaired to what all could be done if they would just  agree to disagree.

I am hoping... That Jerry's phone will call with a job offer soon.
