What a weekend.

What a weekend. Our water frozen on Friday. We both forgot to let the water drip overnight. Even the sewer hose froze over night. Jerry called Skip (owner of the campground) to come thaw out the water line that we attach our hose to, since it was frozen as well as our hose. He was so kind, He not only thawed his waterline, but he also aimed the jet heater into our camper and thaw out our inside water lines, as well.
Skip said that this is the first time he's seen the lake have any ice on it. He's only owned the campground for 3 years.

We now have a water leak.. (yeah, I figured we would end up with at least one) A copper fitting broke loose. At first, Jerry tied to solder it back together but that didn't hold. Next, he's tried J-B Weld. The first time didn't hold, but he found a small area that he may have missed with the weld and patched that, We haven't tested it yet to see if it will hold. After eating dinner out, we stopped at Home Depot to pick up more J-B weld and a case of water for my use tomorrow.

We had a very pleasant Surprise when we ate out Saturday evening at Appleby's.. Although it's a bit more pricey that what we usually pay. We got just what we ordered and it looked just like the pictures on the menu looked like. I got the Chicken that was on special. It was served over zucchini and squash and cut up potatoes, had shrimp and tomato on top as well as Cheese.. and it was yummmy.. A 10. Jerry had a sandwich and he said it was just how he wanted it, as well as the fries. We shared a plate of deep fried twisted potatoes and the dessert of a chocolate chip cookies, two scoops of vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge drizzled on top and some whipped cream. I do believe we may be eating there more often.

I finally got the stitching pulled out of the top tier of the skirt I'm working one. Now to refill the bobbin and go at it again.

I could have spanked Rocky late last night. Our "last walk" of the day and he goes over the hill to do his ... and got tangled around a small tree. I had to put Macon and Barney inside before I could help Rocky , He was so tangled that I had to sit on the ground in my flannel gown and dangle my feet over the edge and try to reach him to get him loose.. and that failed. I had to really pull on his collar to get him close enough I could undo his latch, then I was able to un-tangle his lead from the tree.. I think he thought he was going to be left outside because he started to "cry" for me when I walked away. I just had to have both hands free so I could get to him. Now my gown is dirtied. I just hope the staines wash out next time I wash it.

Hello

Hello ... Our propane line (the plastic regulator) froze last night... as long as we only had the pilot on, it would burn but turn up the thing and the pilot would go out. We will be lucky if we get a degree or two above freezin today. Even all three dogs are not wanting to stay outside very long. Now that the sun is up a bit, the heater is working like it should. And it's on the shady side of the camper, at that.
I have a electrical heater aimed at me, as I sit on my side of the couch. I'm also bundled up. I have on that very nice and warm flannel gown that a friend was so kind in giving me. (Thank YOU just does not seem to say enough for it) My ratty, full of small holes, maroon house coat that really has seen better days (I got this used from my younger brothers soon to be wife in 2002) The duck fleece around my shoulders and the orange around my legs and feet.

The dogs and cats are all curled up together on my bed. My light is on and that make a nice warm spot that they push each other into and out of. Thank goodness we are going to have a sunny day. Here in about an hour, when the sun is high enough to really do it's job, I'll be taking the sunshield out of my window and allow the solar heating to do it's job. (Free Heat !!) I have the silver side Inside to help reflect back in the heat. There is a street light for the playground just below the camper that shines inside our camper if I don't have that shield in the window.
My plans for the day... trying to stay warm. walk the dogs only when I have to. convince the cats that they have to go out some time today but it's ok to come back in quickly if they will only ask. dishes, make the beds, and now, today I promise I will sew that skirt together. I have found the end of my table (again) until dinner last night anyway. We had taco almost. Jerry doesn't like hard taco shells all that much. I swear, when I picked up the box of taco shells that it said they were the soft shells.. (not) But I have flour Tortilla's in the fridge to make wraps for my lunch with.. and I bought myself a set of those taco shell bakers (a bit pricey for what you get) and so I baked us up a couple of shells each. I had to bake two more once those 4 came out of the oven cause Jerry loved his taco salad we ended up with. I made the seasoned meat following the directions on the back of the box, only I didn't have any tomatoes or tomato sauce, I did, however have tomato paste. I put that in my 2 cup measuring cup then filled the rest of the cup with warm from the tap water and stirred it to break up the paste and then poured that over the meat, pinto beans and seasoning pack, let it come back up to a simmer and then covered. I used a bag of salad , chopped up a tomato ( brought back memories of doing so for Home-school Co-op) thin sliced a cucumber and green pepper. I had mushrooms on my said, Jerry doesn't like mushrooms.

Today, I'm thinking of making a roast. I can bake that in the roasting oven or in the crock-pot. I just haven't decided how I want to cook it just yet. I'm going to sear the roast before I put it on the potatoes. Oops, no Green Beans. I'll have to fix a can of peas for dinner. Jerry just called, I'll be putting the crock pot in the fridge, He's taking me out to eat. He needs to find some insulated gloves while we are out.
Oh how I wish I had that surger working right, right now. I found a very nice piece of almost shear material that would make a perfect head covering, if the long edge was just surged ..
Think I'll be asking Jerry to hurry up and pick up one at the South Boston Wal-mart so we can work out our exchange... (going to put this broken one in the box of a new one, then take it back to the store)

Oh, I have to "Hide" the evidence that I had four boiled eggs this morning for my breakfast before Hubby gets home tonight.. (yeah I know,, two too many) As a kid, If I was getting a cold, I would boil up some eggs and have them for my snack or lunch. Mom said she always knew I was getting a cold if I was eating boiled eggs. I eat them any time of the year but if I boiled up more that 2, she would worry I was coming down with something. I always figured it was something safe to eat, if my tummy was upset and so very simple to make. She told Jerry, so now he worries if I boil up too many eggs at any time. I usually limit myself to only 4 eggs a week. don't know why, except the old hag about them being bad for me. which I know is not the whole truth about eggs.

I have been reading "Patchwork, A Story of 'The Plain People". written in 1920. At first I thought it was about the Amish since it's location is near Lancaster PA. but it's not about them but more about a sect of Brethren . (sp?) It's about a girl who is about 10 years old. About three weeks ago I was watching a docu-series on the TV about a Sect that were struggling to make their ends meet and how each family got along within their area. I found it interesting, to say the least. The book is a free Kindle Book. It's funny how even though it was written almost 100 years ago, not a lot seems to have changed all that much. I only noticed the time difference when the little girl was talking to a veteran who lived in town, From the Civil War

I usually watch the last hour of The Today Show... so funny today to see the camera man ( or maybe it was a woman) sneak one of those eggplant snacks off the plate.. I loved it.. and the look the one gal gave him, as well... ha ha ha.. I bet they get more of that this year. I like that the people behind the camera's on "The Today Show" are more relaxed and able to fool around a bit. It shows it's more of a family than just people who are working in the same building..

Hello ... And Good Morning.

Hello ... And Good Morning. (5 am) It was a quiet Weekend here in Virginia. There is still some snow back in the woods, where it is very shady. I have a tub under the edge of the camper and it had filled up with water. It thawed by yesterday afternoon and I was able to dump it and put the tub on it's side. I don't want it to split but I don't have room in the camper for it.

I had to turn on the propane heater this morning. here at 5am the tempt outside is 27 which is suppose to be our high tomorrow. Considering where we live, That's just plain out COLD. I'll be bundled up for sure, tomorrow. I'm even going to put extra blankets on the beds today. I expect that the cats will sleep in the camper most of this week. At least we don't have snow or ice to deal with along with this cold snap.

Jerry had to work 10 hours Saturday and 8 hours yesterday.

We did our food shopping after eating at Ruby Tuesday last night. I had the salmon and Jerry had the Herb Crusted Tilapia.
Dinner will be Salad, Spaghetti, with seasoned ground pork in the tomato sauce and I hope to bake some bread to go with it today.

I'll be watching some of the things I have on DVR'ed most of the day.

Poor Rocky.. (6 AM) Strips is "lovin" all over him. Rocky came and got on the couch by me, only to have Strips follow him in here, and lay on top of him. I have Rocky's usual spot on the bed taken up with a tub of clean clothes I need to fold and put away today. Strips and Tupelo are both inside right now (7 am) No idea where Fuzzy is. Rocky gave up trying to sleep on the couch and went back to get up on my bed. Macon is already there so Rocky had to "Make" some room for himself. Strips followed him back there and got on Macon.

I didn't get on-line much yesterday, I did some reading, and I decorated up a white apron I had picked up a couple of weeks ago. I used an iron transfer to put a "B" on it and some flowers under that. I used the tube paints I picked up when Jerry got rained out.
(A close up of my apron)

I am wearing... Black Sweatpants. top with dark blue pattern on it.

I am reading... emails, Exodus 28, "Patchwork, A Story of 'The Plain People".

I am hoping... That Jerry has next Sunday off work next Sunday. Trying to get laundry and shopping done after work on the weekend.

I am creating... I really need to finish that skirt. Just a few mnutes to dig out the sewing machine and set it up on the end of the table.. but first I need to find the end of the table under all the junk that's piled there,, and I have to un-pile the beds and make them so I can get the ironing board out from the foot of my bed.

A few plans for today...
put away laundry.
tape up the windows with duct tape.
take spare hose off the water system. be sure it is drained
tape up hatch in back.
tape up door to back of the water heater tank
sew skirt together

Hello ...

I wrote this note, this morning, then went back to bed for a couple of hours,
Hello ... Good Morning. It's still raining and the school in our area are going to start two hours later than the usual. According the the tv. we have had over 3 inches of rain fall so far. Jerry lost his keys to the van this morning. I found them only because I needed to straighten up the pillows and blankest of the couch. they were under the pillow. I have no idea how they got there.
He got off work early yesterday and we took advantage of that. Beth asked for the Sprint thing to be able to get on-line (We call it a card but it's not really a card) So that got put into the mail. Whilel I was at the post office, I bought a book of stamps. They are $9 for 20 now. I thought the price wasn't suppose to go up until around the 20th. A stop at the Dollar Tree, I was looking for white coffee cups. Not a one to be found. I did find a few things else to pick up. I could have spent much more in there, First stuff I saw was for Valentines Day. I picked up a couple of things, I need to get out my Cricut and make small milk cartons to put the candies in. I also found some Easter stuff. I picked up plastic eggs. Last year, I regreted not picking up eggs when I saw them because right after that, I found all sorts of fun looking crafts to make with a few of them. I asked Heather if they had any left and of course they no longer had any. I also found a few Mardi Gras Items that I like, I was surprised to find those this far "North". I got some coins (plastic of course) and masks. If only I had more room and space to decorate. We never decorated for MG while the kids were at home.. Now.. I am finding all sorts of fun things. There were posters for the wall, necklaces even ones with a small cup on them. masks, Purple, Green and Gold socks and stuff with feathers.
I picked up a couple of hand towels for St Patricks day, as well.
I found a small cookie sheet and cooling racks that will fit in the table top oven and I grabbed them up quick.
Next stop was Hobby Lobby. (hey, I picked up some tube paints. Do you recall Tri-Chem paints? I use to have a bunch of them, long ago.. oh so long ago. Remember Tri-Chem parties? I have many fond memories of going to painting parties while we lived in Clifton Colorado. for just over $22 a box of 8 I only picked up two boxes... there are two more sets and I plan on picking them up next time I get to over there. I headed over to the area where the Cricut stuff is (hey, I had money to spend) I picked up two more Cartrages for my Cricut and more cutting blades. I met three ladies in that area. They were looking at scrapbooking stuff. We talked a few minutes and I ended up with a card. They do Stampin Up demos. There's a party tonight, sure wish I could go, She was going to tell me where it was at, but there just is no way I could go. I just can't ask Jerry to drive me to a demo after he's worked all day long.
Because it was raining so hard, we decided to not do the laundry. We have enough clean clothes to last us a while longer. It would have just taken too long to dry things. If Jerry gets rained out today we will go and do it this afternoon. I'm sure he'll have to work this weekend to make up for yesterday. Can you tell I hope he gets rained out again today? There is a chance he may not have to work today but we never know until he gets to work.
There are flood warnings all over our area. Both in the county we live in and the county the job is in.
Each time I took the dogs out yesterday they would Pee then all but pull me back to the door to get back in out of the rain. This morning it caught up with them and they each had to poop. (tmi?) I have an old towel that I put close to the door, to dry them off with. Barney now things it's a game. He turns around and around my hand holding the towel. Not that it's getting him that dry.. trying to convience him to turn the other direction so the other side can get rubbed dry just doesn't work.

Yehaa

Yehaa... Jerry is rained out (finally) said that the room he is working in, is smaller than our camper and that there are too many people trying to do the same thing in there.

I Found my Tulip Paints.  I have used the Silver on that black sweat shirt.  Right now it looks really ugly. But that's because the glue has to dry.  I had to draw a few "snowflakes" on a piece of paper first to see if I was going to like anything I tried to do free-hand.  of course there's a big difference between a line of ink and a link of glittered glue.. so I kept it simple (for now) and I will work on that red shirt once the black one dries.

as you can see, I have a few "Work in Progress" items going on, in the background. The box in the upper left is the juice lid ornaments I need to finish up. Under the yellow and pick box, is the skirt I need to sew together. On the box is the pink "Peace sign" material I need to make a dress out of.  While looking for the paints I found the material and patterns for another dress I want to make.

See those eyes?  That's Macon, sleeping ON Jerry's pillows.  That's a cat on the brown blanket, sleeping on Rocky's pillow.

That is my white sweat shirt jacket I made last spring.. I put it over Rocky when we came in this morning and over an hour later, he was still asleep under it.  Stripes  loves to curl up on my blankets.

I need a new lint roller. I want to find one of those that you just rinse the hair off of.

Good Monday morning

Good Morning. It's another January Monday.  Dark and Dreary today. Rain all day in the forecast but the temperature  is still not that bad with a high expected to be in the 50's. Well really we have already had our high of 64 around Mid-night last night. The rain should be out of here by mid-week.  The dogs all seem content to stay inside and sleep in this kind of weather. The cats, as well. Fuzzy came running into the camper this morning and jumped up on the couch beside me to cuddle for a few minutes. (rubbing the rain off her fur, unto me) She then went to the bedroom and cuddled up with Macon.

Today is "Clean the Camper" day, as every Monday is.  I'll be making an on-going shopping list, as I do most weeks.  Some items are always on the list. Salad makings, Bread, Colas... but I'll tell you, I did not put any colas in my cart last night (Jerry didn't shop with me last night, he stayed in the van) I refuse to pay $2 for 2 liters. Not when other stores charge much less for the same cola off the same truck.  I have a Soda Stream and I know how to use it !. . .  I made up some pink Lemonade drink for today, but tomorrow I may make it fizzy.  I have found that I can use the water I make up from the Soda Stream to add "bubbles" to my Jell-O.  Jerry didn't say one way or the other if he liked it, last time I did it.

To make my potatoes today, I'm going to put the last of my white potatoes in the crock pot once I get the dishes done and cook them on low all day. with just a bit of water and the potatoes on top of a steamer basket. these potatoes just don't seem to want to cook well at all. I bought red potatoes to use once these white ones are gone.

From the kitchen...
Salad, Burger, Baked Potatoes,

Mexican Meatloaf

2 lbs ground beef (or whatever ground meat you prefer)
1 egg
1 taco seasoning packet
¼ - ½ cup crushed crackers or bread crumbs
½ - 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar, marble or mozzarella)
1 cup salsa (optional)

Combine all ingredients (except salsa) and place in large loaf pan. If using salsa pour over top of loaf. Cook for approx. 40-45 minutes in a preheated oven f 350F until cooked through.

Why is it, we have Dish TV and I can't seem to find anything I want to watch on the TV.  I'm not even sure I want to watch anything we have recorded. I have been going though the Christmas Movies I copied before Christmas, right it's "A Dog Named Christmas".  but if I remember watching it, I'll delete it and find another one to watch.

I am wearing... Brown Sweat Pants and slightly faded top.

I am reading... Exodus 24 ,  World War One: History in One Hour. Emails

I am creating... I read about how you can use Permanent marker to write or draw on coffee cups or other ceramic items.. Well, I tried it yesterday, with just black marker on a slightly chipped dessert bowl. I used both black and some red on the bottom.. before I baked it, I experimented by, once I used the red on the bottom, I used nail polish removed see if it would remove the marker. Yes it does.  So, I re-marked the red on the bottom of the bowl and baked in the roasting oven at 350F for 30 minutes, starting with the bowl in a cold oven, letting it warm up, then allowing it to cool down in the oven.  I removed it and wouldn't you know, I tried removing the red with more nail polish remover... and it did remove the red, so baking it didn't really set it but it was a bit harder to remove but it did remove it. Once it was cooled off, I did try hand-washing it and it didn't wash off or fade.  So, although it's not as permanent as I would like, I know I can still pick up white (or other light colored) cup and "fancy" them up a bit. When I was telling Jerry about it. He wondered why I would want to do that.. what he doesn't know is that I plan on making a cup for him, for Valentines day. Jerry isn't much of a coffee drinker but he does like hot tea every now and then.

Hello

Today is foggy out or rather misty. Not sure just what the difference is on that. The dogs had a blast running amok outside for a few minutes. That is, until they got their leads caught up around a tree. I had to untangle them at least twice before it was time to go back into the camper. Even now, they are still playing, mussing up the blankets on my bed.
I fed the cats inside today. I do that when outside isn't very pleasent. Barney and Rocky are good about bringing me the empty cat food cans out of the kennel when the cats are done, for that, they all three get a dog treat.
I have most of the camper cleaned up (again) from the back to getting the dishes done and I still have some time to work on the rest of the camper before Hubby gets home tonight. Payday.. we will eat out. Good thing since I need to make a quick stop at a store for bread and sausage for his breakfast tomorrow morning.
I just painted my nails.. teal with a purple glitter over that. Didn't turn out quite like I thought it would, but I'm still ok with the results.
I'm watching shows I recorded befor Christmas and then deleting them to make room for more shows.  I'm keeping a few of them that are not completly Christmas. I am keeping the ice skating one since I also enjoy the music on it.
I am wearing... Dark Grey Sweat pants and my dark Horse t-shirt that almost looks like your on the back of the horse.

I hope you had a restful Weekend.

I hope you had a restful Weekend. Ours was at least restful. Jerry had to work Saturday, but only for 8 hours instead of the 10 we expected. It was nice for him to be home before dark. We ate our dinner at Chick-fa-lay.. It was noisy as there were lots of kids . Sunday Morning we ate breakfast at our usual place (Golden Corral) and our dinner was at Wendy's. Did you know if you are "Of a certain Age" you can get senior drinks for free? It's a small cup the size of the kids drink, but you can get it refilled as often as you want.
After breakfast on Sunday, we went back toward the laundry mat we usually go to, and found it full. We decided to drive around a bit instead. We ended up back in South Boston. I was falling asleep, when Jerry said he had to use the bathroom and stopped at the gas station he often stops at on his way into work for his drinks. When he got back in the van, he said "Where to now?" I said We could look for a laundry mat and wouldn't you know, there was one right across the road from the gas station. It cost a bit more than the one in Danville but not that much more. It wasn't very busy when we got there but got busy not soon after wards but there were still plenty of machines. I do have to hang a few items in the camper today, but that dryer was a bit more full and these are the thicker things, i.e. a light jacket, a couple of thick T-shirts and some socks... I got most of them hung last night but I only have 7 hangers (no, I don't want any more than that) and the rest will be hung up this morning when I start my cleaning up.
I forgot to pull the sausage out of the freezer last night and had to cut off what I needed for Jerry's breakfast off the frozen roll. How I hate to do that. I'll have to cut the rest of the roll in a couple of hours while the roll is still semi frozen so I can get even, thin(er) slices for this week.
The News is saying that our Temperatures next Sunday may be in the upper 60's to low 70's. Yikes.. That is NOT winter weather at all. Much as I don't like the cold, We need a good cold snap to kill all the bugs.
(11 am)
I have bagged up the trash and put it outside to go into the van this evening. The dogs and I have had one walk, this morning

Outside my door ... (11 am) Its so nice and bright and sunny and warm. I only needed a light jacket to walk the dogs around the circle drive. Strips decided he was going to "lead" us and I did a couple of turn around's to confuse him. It's bad enough the dogs want to lead me when they don't know where I want to go, It's just downright funny when a cat does it. Now, if I could only get him to "sit" and "Stay" on command like I do the dogs.
The Dogs ... (11 am) Did good after they realized I was not going to let them lead me.. but Barney wanted to see where the cat went after he left us behind and took off over to another campsite. He wanted to chase a bird that got away.
The Cats ... (11 am) Strips came into the camper after our walk, the other two didn't even budge. The don't want outside where it's a little chilly in the shade. I bet they would go outside if I shook the cat food bucket.
From the kitchen...
Taco Pie
8 servings
A pre-baked crust of refrigerated crescent-roll dough is filled with a mixture of browned ground beef and taco seasoning layered with sour cream, shredded cheese, and crushed nacho chips. It is returned to the oven for about 10 minutes."
INGREDIENTS:
1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
1 pound ground beef
1 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
1 (16 ounce) container sour cream
8 ounces shredded Mexican-style cheese blend
1 (14.5 ounce) package crushed tortilla chips
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2.Lay crescent dough flat on the bottom of a square cake pan and bake according to package directions.
3. Meanwhile, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the taco seasoning and stir together well. When dough is done, remove from oven and place meat mixture on top, then layer with sour cream and cheese, and then top off with the crushed nacho chips.
4. Return to oven and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 10 minutes, or until cheese has melted.

When Beth called me this morning I mentioned that I was going to make this for our Dinner and she said she had made it over the weekend. She said that I may want to season the dough a bit as it's a bit sweet. She said that, next time she makes this, She will either sprinkle some Garlic or Onion powder over the crust.. or use a blend of the two. I suggested Season Salt since it has both and she said that may work.. When I looked at the amount of seasoning I had in my Taco Seasoning packet, I noticed it was more than 1 oz so I sprinkled some of that over the dough and put the rest of the packet in the ground beef I had on in the skillet. Since my hubby does NOT like Sour Cream, I'll not put that on.. Beth said she put some sour cream on after it was baked, on her portion since her S/O doesn't like Sour Cream either and she said that's really the way to do it so the Sour Cream stays cool. I used Frito Chips since I'm out of Nacho Chips.

Christmas Card Candleholders

Christmas Card Candleholders

Add a holiday touch to everyday decor with candleholders crafted from Christmas cards.
Materials
  • Two old Christmas greeting cards with a large motif (such as an ornament, a snowflake, or a wreath)
  • 1-1/2-inch wide ribbon: metallic silver
  • Four sheets of cardstock or patterned paper: in coordinating colors or prints
  • Plastic candleholders in two sizes
  • Double-sided adhesive tap
  • Fabric glue
  • Decoupage medium (such as Mod Podge)
  • Self-adhesive gemstones: clear (optional)
  • Two candles
Make the Small Candleholder

1. Cut motif from one greeting card. From cardstock or patterned paper, cut a strip wide enough to accommodate the motif and long enough to wrap around candleholder plus 1/2-inch. Cut a slightly wider strip of coordinating cardstock or patterned paper and a piece of 1-1/2-inch-wide silver ribbon in the same length as the first cardstock strip.

2. Tightly wrap the wider strip around the candleholder and adhere at overlap with double-sided adhesive tape. Center and wrap narrower strip around wider strip and secure in the same manner. Wrap ribbon around center of narrower strip and glue in place. Using decoupage medium, adhere motif to front of candleholder. If desired, trim candleholder with rows of clear gemstones. Place candle in candleholder.

Make the Large Candleholder

To trim the large candleholder, use the front of the remaining greeting card. Cut the cardstock, patterned paper, and ribbon, and assemble the candleholder as directed for the small candleholder.
